Austalia - Done!

We finally made it - all the way to Cairns! Just over 2000 miles!  It really does feel like a big achievement.

Over the last week we have been staying in hotels, motels and hostels due to a combination of rain, too many insects, hot sticky weather and stomach bugs!  as you can imagine this was luxury after the tent and very nice to not be disturbed by animals during the night!

Highlights have been the Great Barrier Reef.  we spent the day snorkeling in lovely warm water.  Although we were covered from head to toe in a rather fetching stinger suit due to all the jellyfish (apparently although we didn't see any!)  But we did see many exotic and colourful fish of all sizes.  The best bit was seeing a shark and a turtle.  It was amazing but we could of done it for far longer - maybe next time!!!!  We have been for a cruise on the Daintree river looking for crocodiles but as it was so hot we only saw the one poking his head out of the water.  David still wanted to go swimming!

Final thoughts......Australia is a large country and it's not until you get here that you realise that it really is the other side of the world!  It is very hot and humid and very difficult to escape this heat.  It is full of interesting and varied wildlife - anything that bites we've decided we can do without!  We like the country and have had a fantastic time but we wouldn't want to live here!

Big thanks......to everyone who has helped us in Australia - the boys in Gladstone, Barry from Tin Can Bay and of course Bianca in Sydney.

On a sad note.....we have lost our camera and all the photos of the trip so far.  Gutted.  We hope to replace it soon so we can put more photos in the blog.  Next time we will back up the photos sooner!

Hi guys!

Australia sounds fascinating with all the animals. Very jealous you saw a turtle! Duuuude!

Im gutted for you about your camera, but you never know, the hotel may find it still and ring you. Did you get mums message about putting a message on the local radio. She thought if someone found it they may be able to post the camera or even just email the photos to you.

Well, hope you manage to get another one soon. Cant wait to hear all about New Zealand!

Love you loads!
Hugs!

Hi friends hope your journey to New zealand was a safe one. Sorry to hear about your camara.
Zoe you have made the cover of Diocese Of Ely website along with Sue & Anita (Bar be que fame)If you get a chance look it up. And while on the subject of loosing things. Did you lose a pair of glasses back home in blighty David?? As while using Jimmy's van I came across a pair that look like yours??? And as they don't suit me I thought I had better mention it to you before I sell them. After all, while you're living it up - globe trotting (yes I am jealous bitter and twisted) some of us here are having to deal with living through a recession. No football news to report as Histon's game was postponed at the week end due to a water logged pitch. I hope your pride is not too dented after the "snake" episode while camping last week my friend. I'm praying that you hearts grow more and more open to God & all his wonderful purposes he has for you - and be sure to ask for fresh bread daily! Love you both - the SMIFFS!

Zoe is having a great Birthday. She was lucky enough to be given breakfast in bed in our new home in Auckland. We are now off into the city to find a job.

Smithy, Glasses are not mine but I did lose some goggles in the sea so if they turn up can you hold ontop them for me. Shame about Histon games being off at least Burton dropped points. Great news about Beck staying and never mind Damion leaving.

Any news on the clemo and dave comment party?
